Internet Protocol Cameras (IP Cameras) vs. CCTV

Internet Protocol Cameras (IP Cameras) vs. CCTV

The cameras are dissuasive in terms of security; they deter thieves or people with criminal intentions. And this is fulfilled by both IP cameras and CCTV cameras. This is easy to understand. I can be recognized and charged if I am recorded committing a crime with a camera.

Based on this standard feature, we will see differences between the IP and CCTV cameras.

IP cameras or network cameras

IP cameras use the Internet Protocol (IP) used by most local area networks (LANs) to transmit video over data networks in digital form. Optionally, the IP can be transmitted over the public Internet, allowing users to view their cameras remotely on a computer or phone through an Internet connection.

IP cameras are video devices that work through an internet connection. Their definition is high, and they are the option over traditional CCTV cameras. Its advantages are summarized as follows:

IP cameras are less expensive

For a lower price, they have more options and more qualities
Installation is simple, as is maintenance.
They are connected to a mobile phone or a computer, with which we can see and manage the camera from any place where we have Internet

An IP camera can provide us with the peace of mind and security that we are looking for little money

Advantages of a CCTV camera

CCTV cameras are interconnected in a closed-circuit television. On their monitors, we can see what is happening at all times in a specific space.

Its advantages are:

  • The image is more reliable since no detail is lost due to network saturation as the camera is directly connected to the monitor
  • The fact of being connected to a central gives greater security. A security company controls and manages the circuit, a more professional solution than IP cameras.
  • The company will notify a security agent and the Police if there is any alert.

Anti-inhibition security. The CCTV signal cannot be inhibited, contrary to the Internet signal.

Anti-sabotage security. If someone tries to tamper with the cable of the CCTV system, an alert signal will be transmitted to the security company.

Regarding the disadvantages of both types of cameras, IP cameras are of no use if the network fails and are susceptible to sabotage due to frequency jamming for WiFi or mobile.

Installing a CCTV security system is more expensive, and a bad installation can be subject to sabotage.

A hybrid camera that contains the best of both types of cameras is probably a good solution.
